At 18 he left his home city of Nottingham for Illinois USA on a football scholarship following a successful season representing England U18’s in international competition. Receiving a degree in Communication from Illinois State University, Steve has more recently gained a Masters degree in Management studies.
In February 2009, Steve left Camelot Group plc to pursue a business venture which is now Rieves UK Limited. Rieves is a Lottery retail specialist selling National Lottery and Charity products and services.
Career progression within Camelot saw Steve appointed to National Account Controller in 2006 with overall responsibility for the UK’s largest multiple retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons & WH Smith. He led a team of 13, reporting to Camelot’s Commercial Director, who was one of three Executive Main Board directors.
In addition, he was responsible for new business at retail; both new retailers and channels. One such new channel, Fast Pay, accounted for 30% of total Camelot sales (£1.5 billion), allowing 10 million customers to use a Lottery card to play.
Prior to this role Steve was National Sales Controller with responsibility for strategy and operational delivery across Camelot’s retail estate of over 28,000 stores covering all sectors. He was responsible for leading a restructure of the 200 strong team, segmentation of the retailer network and the implementation of new training initiatives.
Steve has worked for other Blue Chip consumer goods companies such as RJ Reynolds Tobacco and WH Smith News across numerous roles over the course of 19 years; including that of bar owner for three years.
Steve is married and lives with his wife and daughter in Hertfordshire.
